Help is on the Way

Hurricane Florence

Bucket trucksThe call has gone out for workers and support to head to the coast to prepare and assist communities with one of the biggest storms of the century. While I was traveling east along I-40 toward Knoxville for the Tennessee Realtors Convention, I passed convoy after convoy of bucket trucks and electrical service vehicles on the way to offer assistance.

It is wonderful how various states have pitched in sending workers that are willing to leave their families to go help with the impending disaster. The trucks I saw were from Mississippi.

Hurricane Florence has caused evacuations from Georgia to VA and Maryland. The Outer Banks are a major concern. The rain is expected to be 25 to 30 inches causing coastal and inland flooding which will be combined with very high storm surges. The storm is expected to make landfall late Thursday or early Friday with some saying it could be a Category 4 storm at landfall.

When I arrived at my hotel, the parking lot was full of electrical service trucks and not the same ones I saw on the road. In the lobby they had crates full of their tools that they had brought in to protect from theft and stay safe. I expect them to load up and be gone in the morning.

Godspeed and stay safe.
