Throwback Thursdays - Give Me A Pull
I like visiting antique shops when traveling because it gives me a bit of nostalgia and I never know when I will find a treasure I have to take home. While visiting Cookeville, TN a couple of years ago, an old shop near the court house square caught my eye.
Inside was a real treat as the shop owner focused on old toys and collectibles from the 30's, 40's and 50's. I spotted this pull-a-long frog which was similar to many of the pull along toys that I had when growing up. My brothers probably had one very much like this one. Most of the toys during that time were hand painted and very simple in design. We, children loved the fact that the legs moved and mouth went up and down. We shared out toys with each other and did not have the mounds of toys children have today so each one was a appreciated and well used.
Simple and colorful were the ingredients that impressed us and if you added a little noise maker inside, then it was a home run.
On a side note, the looped potholders this little froggy is sitting on was made on a loom. These were big craft items several decades ago. I was very good at making them and gave them as gifts. You had to be very careful when using them because they were so small you could burn your hands very easily but they were colorful and again a very appreciated gift.
