A Day at the Customs House Museum in Clarksville, TN

A Day at the Customs House Museum in Clarksville, TN

The Customs House Museum is Clarksville's museum full of history about the area around Clarksville and the Cumberland River. It has many exhibits both temporary and permanent that are perfect for the whole family or any history buff.

There is so much for families and children with January 14th as Family Free Day called All Aboard. This day has a special emphasis on the model trains. They model trains will run from 10AM to 12PM and 2-3PM. There are activities of all types and a model train scavenger hunt. This sounds like a lot of fun. There are hands on learning experiences for children and a story time.

There are other special exhibits throughout the year and here are the ones currently being featured:

Slave and Slaeholders of Wessyngton Plantation

Tennessee Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibition

Her Honeybunch Sweetie Pie is Gone

The Customs House Museum is located in one of the most historic buildings in Clarksville. On the corner of Commerce and South Second Street in downtown Clarksville, it has a very unusual architectural facade and has been registered on the National Historic Registry. It is over a hundred years old. The Customs House Museum has a history of being used as a real customs house, a post office and several other uses which includes the Department of Electricity. We are proud that is the second largest general museum in the State of Tennessee.

The Customs House Museum is open every day of the week except Mondays. Check the website to see museum and gift shop hours.

Temporary Exhibits are constantly changing throughout the year with a wide variety of features. Many of them  are of local artists. The permanent displays do focus on locals from the area. Check the website for the admission costs and how to become a member. Remember the second Saturday of each month has free admission.
