Clarksville Downtown Market Summer Crops
Clarksville's Downtown Market has had an abundance of produce with all the rain we have had lately. This was one of the best years for corn and it has been plump and sweet. As the season progresses local growers with their small home gardens are picking and using their own veggies and traffic at the market is less.
The peaches are at the end of the season and never came down in price but oh they have been sweet and and juicy. I made a couple of peach cobblers and served with vanilla ice cream.
Melons have been very good and last time I got a cantaloupe and this time a watermelon. Though they may not look a deep color inside but they are still very ripe and delicious.
The tomatoes are so good and I branch out trying different varieties. My favorites remain the same. It is hard to beat an Heirloom.
Squash is always good and this zucchini is good to grate into your spaghetti sauce for extra vitamins. I also like to grill it with a light brushing of olive or grape oil.
