Flu Season is on the Way, Clarksville

Flu Season is Coming, Get Ready Clarksville TN

Flu seasonAs we enter fall it's time to schedule getting that flu shot so the flu will not knock you off your feet this fall or winter. There are cases already starting and health care providers are already saying it isn't too early to be vaccinated. We usually don't expect flu season to start until later in the fall but the truth is it never goes away and flu strikes all year long. See what has been happening by clicking here to see the weekly report for Tennessee (Clarksville) Region 4.

Young children and babies,  expectant mothers, the elderly and those with respiratory and heart problems should definitely get immunized. Doing it early may head off getting sick or at the very least minimizing the exposure. Flu can bring complications that could result in death.

Flu Season and Clarksville TN

Flu vaccines are available through the local health department, doctors offices, drugstores and even some public and community organizations. Even Sam's Club give vaccines. The vaccine is recommended over the nasal mist as being more effective. The cost is affordable and most insurance programs cover it without a deductible.

Click here if you have concerns as to the effects the flu vaccine will have on you and your health.

Here are symptoms of flu.

Coughing and sore throat
Headache, muscle and body aches
Fever and chills
Overall listlessness
Runny nose and sneezing

Muscle weakness and exhaustion
Even diarrhea and vomiting

These are similar to a bad cold but flu-like symptoms are much stronger with lots of fatigue making you want to stay home and go to bed. The CDC does weekly monitoring and reports symptoms to watch out for.

If you think you have the flu see a doctor right away. There are medications to help reduce the effects and get you well quicker. Stay home and don't take your germs to the office.  Aspirin or acetaminophen may help with reducing the discomforts and lowering the fever. Wash your hands often and drink plenty of liquids.
