Real Estate by Debbie Reynolds: Throwback Thursdays - The Day President Reagan Was Shot

Throwback Thursdays - The Day President Reagan Was Shot

Throwback Thursdays - President Reagan Shot in D.C.

It's been 35 years since President Reagan was leaving the Washington Hilton Hotel on March 30, 1981 and John Hinckley shot him and 3 others. President Reagan was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery. You can read the news story here. Thankfully he had a complete recovery.

James Brady, White House Press Secretary was also shot and was in critical condition. His injures were life altering and resulted in paralysis. He died in 2014. Two law enforcement officer were also shot but recovered.

The hotel has a plaque on the rock wall close to where the shooting occurred and under it is a beautiful rose and flower garden. This is the hotel where I stayed on my recent trip to D.C. It brought back memories seeing this area and remembering the news accounts of the shootings so many years ago. It made me think of President Kennedy's assassination and I was so glad it didn't end in fatalities.

I remember too many notable people falling to nut cases with guns, going back to JFK

it was those psychics and astrologers to try to protect Ronnie from the effects of the curse that Nancy hired that saved him.  I was in the 10th grade in a government class and we had talked about the "curse" the day before he was shot.  I was very glad he survived.

Hi Debbie Reynolds ,  I remember that just like yesterday.  I'm glad it isn't a common occurrance. I was at my Great Grandfathers funeral when JFK was shot.

Yes Ed Silva there were many crazies running around then and now.

I have read lots about that and Jean Dixon being on her payroll. I don't believe in all of that Tammy Lankford, It would have been a terrible blow to the country if it had been fatal.

I was in the lunchroom in the 6th grade when JFK was shot. You could hear a pin drop Larry Johnston.

I am sure the hotel is not proud of that notariety Lou Ludwig. But you can't be responsible for someone crazy.

Good morning Debbie. Remember it well, as many others do. It was one frightening event in our history. Hard to believe it was that many years ago.

Hi Debbie... I remember JFK's assassination like it was yesterday and also clearly remember the day Ronald Reagan was shot. These kinds of events don't fade from our minds.

Good morning Debbie. When you get to a certain age (I have) you tend to vividly remember the monumental things you remember.

Debbie Reynolds

I remember the shooting of President Reagan and the shock it caused to our nation.  And I have toured the JFK Museum here in Dallas which recounts the tragedy of the day Kennedy was assassinated.

Debbie, while I wasn't around when it happened I have read a lot about Reagan's shooting and my Dad is friends with one of his former SS agents. An amazing story to say the least.

Debbie, time sure does fly by, as it doesn't seem like that many years ago.

It's not something I participate in (although I have been known to read my horoscope for fun), but I do believe that it can change things if the person participating believes (mind over matter kind of thing).

Hi Debbie - that was a day I will never forget.  Yes, he even joked saying to Nancy, "I forgot to duck."

Hi Debbie - I do remember that day, and I know the hotel well - I attended many conferences there and was a guest a few times.

Wow, Debbie. How things have changed. It also reminds me of John Lennon's fatal shooting. Reagan was an amazing man and I was terribly sad at how badly Brady suffered the rest of his life.

Good morning Debbie.  I too remember when this happenened although it is pretty vague for me.  I guess that the assassination of President Kennedy looms larger than this in my memory.  But either way, the Brady Law was passed but we have absolutely not done enough as a country on the issue of GUN CONTROL!
