Real Estate by Debbie Reynolds: Your Blog Post Got Me to Thinking

Your Blog Post Got Me to Thinking

Your Blog Triggered a Thought

IdeasWhen reading blogs I like to take the time to leave a comment. Many times I find myself thinking of another set of circumstances that I want to share about the topic. Your blog post got me to thinking.

While writing the comment I realize I have too much to say and don't want to hijack the post and dominate the comment section with a diatribe response. Even while making the comment I may think of another two or three points to make but know I need to be brief and keep it a comment. Has this ever happened to you?

So what do you do when this happens? If time allows I start writing my own post. While the ideas on the subject are flowing I yield to the creative spirit and let it go. Many times I will refer to the post that lead to the inspiration or thought.

Now if time is not in my favor and I think it will be worthy of addressing later, I still start a new blog post and make enough notes to get it going with a train of thought. I may not have a good title yet but will label it based on the topic so I can find it later in my drafts.

When I have a few extra minutes I go back and resurrect it from the draft. The main ideas may stay the same or I might deviate and go with a different point. My draft section has many half started posts waiting to be developed and finished into posts. This helps on those days when I think I don't know what I should write about today.

Others tell me that my posts get their ideas flowing as they mention it in their posts. I don't mind at all being a springboard to a new post. I like many of the neighborhood or market reports I see that remind me to write mine. Some use a format that I find more pleasing than the one I typically use so it is inspiration to change mine up a little and be more innovative. I thank the community for that.

This is one of the beauties of ActiveRain. The content is excellent and inspires us all to write better, share ideas and to answer posts with our own posts giving it our own flavor.

Do you get ideas while reading other's blog posts?

Hi Debbie -- Indeed!  Posts, comments, questions and answers have inspired me.

Hi Debbie - when I get a light bulf or ah ha from a post.  I might right my post post on a similar topic and indicate who gave me the inspiration.

When I was blogging that happened a lot. Hoping it happens again as I resurrect my blogging spirit.

HI Debbie Reynolds - You are so right, many times a blog will create a spring board to another blog idea.  This is a great community that helps us all learn and share.

Hi Debbie - You're right - that is a very rich source of ideas for future posts. I'd guess that maybe a quarter of my non-market report posts have been inspired by other members.

So much of what we do through the course of a day can be an inspiration for a a post, and reading posts and comments here is no different

Debbie there is a never ending source of inspiration here in the rain!  And I do what you do - start a new post and jot down a few thoughts and get back it it later.

I often see posts on here or all over the web that are inspiring! I also try to keep my comments short so I do not defer away from the post itself. So interesting and nice to know I am not alone in this. Great read.

Debbie I also do much the same as you.  It is not unusual for me to have unfinished blogs in "Draft", and then I go back to them during the week and finish them.

I sure do Debbie Reynolds ... I do the same ... start a draft post. However, unfortunately I rarely get back to finishing the draft.  So much inspiration here. So much to learn.

Rarely do I read a post that it doesn't trigger something!  I need to get into a better habit of making notes at the time, rather than thinking I will remember. Hah!

So true, Debbie Reynolds!  And, like you, I keep several blog beginnings in my draft box for later completion.  If I don't start it, the idea may not come back for many moons!

Hi Debbie.  It happens to me all the time!  I'm writing a comment and realize it's too long for a comment; it needs to be its own blog instead.  But I rarely start a draft post right then so of course the inspiration gets lost.  This post reminds me I can do better at that!

Posted by Dianne Goode, Realtor/Broker (Raleigh Cary Realty) over 1 year ago

I sometimes learn more from the comments than the actual article. I'm not a good example of that, but it happens! ActiveRain is only as good as the information shared and you are doing a great job with that, Debbie Reynolds

You are so right.  Many times another's blogs fuels our own and allows us to express our thoughts on the subject.

Posted by Belinda Spillman, Colorado Living! (Aspen Lane Real Estate Colorful Colorado) over 1 year ago

Absolutely and it happens exactly as you dscribe. You start writing a comment and it starts a train of thought. That train begins to leave the station and sometimes you just have to jump on board or be left behind. So like you I start writing right away. Love that about the rain especially on those days when i don't  know what to write. Sometimes I will repost and place my thoughts in front.

Debbie, you have given me an idea that had not crossed my mind, and that is to take a new thought and start a blog post. I can go back to the draft and put it in good form and not lose my thought. Great idea.

Also, I appreciate your comment that you don't want to hijack the post and dominate the comment section with a diatribe response.

Posted by John Wiley, Lee County, FL Real Estate GRI, SRES,GREEN,PSA (Right Move Real Estate Group- EXP Realty) over 1 year ago

Debbie Reynolds I always enjoy reading your posts.  This one in particular sparked in me "what a great idea you shared".  I have often read a blog and started to comment and found my response was much longer than a normal "comment" and could have been turned into a New Blog.  And your blog just confirmed it.  I will try doing what you suggested and see if that helps me to blog more often.  Thank you for another great idea!  I can see why it was FEATURED!
