Serendipity Sundays - Eclipse Traffic Jam

Serendipity Sundays - The Night Before the Eclipse

People have been preparing in Clarksville TN for Eclipse Day and the days surrounding it. NASA is coming to town to record it at Austin Peay State University with their powerful telescopes. You see we are in the direct path and should have total blackout for 2 minutes. NASA and other officials have estimated that 200,000 extra people will come to town and hotels have raised their prices and are totally booked for tonight. But where are the people?

Night before the Eclipse

Local authorities have said traffic this weekend and through Monday, Eclipse Day will be terrible and to try to avoid being on the roads. I have had a hard time believing that we will see the hoards of people here that they have been predicting for months.

My husband and I decided to dine out tonight and went to the area of town where the majority of the hotels and the popular restaurants are located. Traffic was light and like any other Sunday evening. We expected to have to wait for a table but were pleasantly surprised to walk right in and see plenty of empty tables. We lingered after dinner and then decided to drive up and down the boulevard looking for all the people.

There is no traffic jam in Clarksville and there is no traffic. I cannot believe everyone is waiting until tomorrow morning to come to town when the Eclipse Event will be starting around noon. I think they missed the mark with their estimates. Is this more Fake News or just hype?

Maybe people don't feel it will be worth the headache.

Debbie, I would imagine your traffic will be amazing, as Nashville is right in the path of total totality.

Well, I actually thought of you tonight when I was watching the news, seeing that you're right in the path and thinking your traffic would be horrible, Debbie!

Interesting but, it doesn't surprise me at all - the media tends to miss the mark on a lot of their stories and it seems to be getting worse with each passing week. Unbelievable!

Glad you didn't have to wait for dinner and fight traffic tonight - I'm sure that was a pleasant surprise!

You are certainly in a prime location for the solar eclipse.

We were invited to visit with family in Hendersonville but decided to stay at home in Maryland.

Hi Debbie... as I was travelling on Saturday along I-485 and I-85 to appointments I saw tons of notices about expecting delays on the 21st due to the eclipse. Fortunately, today I just need to drive 3 miles down the road for a closing, which will be over by noon... so hopefully won't be impacted by any traffic due to the eclipse (assuming it's as bad as predicted).

Good morning Debbie and consider yourself lucky. I'm not a fan of hoards of folks in my town either.

I hope the emergency rooms don't fill up with people who injured their eyesight.  It's so tempting.

Hi Debbie - where I will be in Florida we have about 83% coverage so it should be an event too.

Hi Debbie - The predicted traffic jams on I-25 convinced us to stay at home and settle for 94% - not spectacular but still very cool - it got dim and chilly.

There was something blocking sun . . . . so I didn't get a good view the eclipse. I'll look forward to the next one in seven years.

Good luck and success.

I watched it on T.V. and thought of you! You wouldn't see my car trying to get down the road with all that traffic!

The eclipse was pretty amazing! I do understand people waiting for the last minute, though. Life has all sorts of responsibilities to take care of. Thanks for sharing!
