Safe Trick or Treating Tips for Halloween

Safety Tips for Trick or Treating in Clarksville TN

For those that will be taking part in the traditional Trick or Treating on Halloween night, I want to share some tips for staying safe that will make the experience trouble-free and more enjoyable.

Trick or treat

Safety Tips for Trick or Treaters

  • Select costumes that don't obstruct the eyes or being able to see.

  • Choose colors that are easily seen after dark and make sure they are not cumbersome or cause the children to trip.

  • Layer clothing if it is cool and if it raining an umbrella is smart to use.

  • Halloween CandyDon't bring your pets along and if you are at home giving out candy put the pets safely away from the door and scary costumes. Many are frightened by the costumes and eerie noises.

  • Young children should be accompanied by an adult or guardian.

  • Travel in groups and stay out of the streets.

  • Take a flashlight and walk lighted paths.

  • Watch where you walk, stay on walkways and driveways. Generally the homes that are participating will have their outside lights on.

  • Don't let the children go inside of any homes.

  • For pumpkins and decorations use battery operated candles and  electric lights with cords totally away from walk areas.

  • Wait until you get home to eat any treats. Parents need to carefully screen the candy.

  • To the Trick or Treaters: Say "Trick or Treat" and say thank you after you have been treated.
  • Big kids, those teenage ones should leave this experience to the little ones. It isn't cute seeing you guys dressed up asking for candy.

Clarksville TN streets will have lots of trick or treaters starting around 4:30. Generally the time for it to be over is 8:00 PM. Be extremely careful and watchful of little ones if you are driving the roads. We all want Halloween to be as safe as possible for all the Clarksville Trick or Treaters.
