Pay it Forward- Helping the Children

ActiveRain's November Challenge

Angel TreeOnce again it is time to share what we members are doing to pay it forward. Thanks, Belinda Spillman for hosting this Pay It Forward Challenge again.

It's about the children. I can't stand the thought of children being hungry or going without needed clothing or toiletry items. Now that the holidays are here, I feel for them knowing they feel left out when other children are lavished with toys and fancy clothes and shoes. That has become so much of the Christmas season.

All through the year, I donate to the local food pantries. People are hungry all the time and not just at holidays. Last week, the donation went to The Well. The Well repairs hot meals for families and homeless that need a helping hand. They send needed food home with them, too.

Can foodsWe also give to the F. U. E. L program that sends food snacks home with school-age children so they have something to eat on the weekends.  The school feeds them during the week but many don't eat anything nourishing from Friday until Monday morning. This year's children are in a school where 80% of the children need help. It is so sad how many have nothing.

I help through the Angel Tree program by adopting an Angel. These are children that will not have a Christmas without us helping. At my church, we do Soldier's Child which helps the children of military children have a good Christmas. We also throw them a party and their parents come and have a good time. Over 1500 people were served last year.

We have donated school supplies to a local medical clinic, fill the bus projects to hand out to children that need these school supplies. The children want to be like other children and have what they need.

A new project is donating toiletries, socks, underwear to the high school. I was shocked to learn how many students have no home and come to school from sleeping at a friend's house or stay outside. It's heartbreaking.

Think about the children and what they are going through. We need to invest in our future.

I think making it about the children is an amazing thing!  I don't have any children of my own, but it always touches my heart to see or hear about children having a rough life.

Debbie, I should check out this in our area too, this is a great charity, and would not want to think about children without food.

Hi Debbie -- you're right, it's not just this time of year, paying it forward is a year-long pursuit(or it should be).  Good for you for the 24/7 embracing you have of this concept - no surprise!

Debbie my favorite programs to help out with is also those involved in providing for the needs of children.  No child should go hungry and miss out on the joy of this time of the year.

Debbie, the thought of children in particular going to bed hungry is both sad and unacceptable to me. You are so kind to giveback and very generous. I agree, it's not just a problem during the holidays, it's year round.
