Fort Defiance Clarksville TN Has Lots of History to Share with Children
The second Tuesday of each month, kids are especially invited to come to Fort Defiance Interpretive Leaning Center for Historic Story Time. This is a wonderful learning experience and perfectly suited for home schooled children and school sponsored trips.
You see, nearly 200 years ago, this area was a trading center for the American Indians. They discovered that the location 200 feet above the confluence of the Red and Cumberland Rivers had the perfect view for protection to see enemies coming up or down the Cumberland River.
Fort Defiance Clarksville TN was a Confederate Post during the Civil War.
Children will learn about the armies from both sides that held the post during the Civil War. Life during the war was hard and Clarksville was a growing trade town during this time.
The Fort is a State Park area and open every day except on special holidays. When you visit Fort Defiance in Clarksville TN today, you will see the trenches and where the walls of the Fort were located. Use your imagination and you can envision soldiers and how they fought and defended the Fort 150 years ago.
For Story Time, come on the second Tuesdays of the month to the Center located at 120 Duncan St. After the story there will be games or crafts appropriate for children ages 2-3. There is a cost for this program of $3. For preregistration and fee payment visit: http://recpro.cityofclarksville.com/.
