Displaying the Flag on the Memorial Day Holiday
In Clarksville TN, we have an abundance of active duty military and retired military. It is a very patriotic town. This weekend there will be many homeowners and businesses displaying the American Flag. It looks very impressive and inspiring and shows support of our country and military.
If you are going to display your flag on Memorial Day first check the flag to see it was in good condition. The American Flag should be treated with respect and according to the rules of the United States Flag Code.
When displaying the Flag this weekend follow these rules:
On Memorial Day only, raise the flag to full mast and then lower to half mast until noon. This honors those that have died in service. Then at noon raise it to full mast for the rest of the day.
Never allow the flag to touch the ground.
Display it by hanging the blue square at the top of unless it is hung during distress.
Your American flag should be clean and not tattered. If it is too worn, replace it.
It should be first displayed at sunrise and lowered at sunset.
You may keep the flag up at all times if it is illuminated during the nighttime hours.
When the flag no longer in good condition retire it using one of the recommended disposal methods. Burning is the most recommended method.
