Serendipity Sundays- George Washington, Much More than a War Hero

Serendipity Sundays - A True Patriot

While near Washington D.C. I visited the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria. This is dedicated to George Washington as the first President of the United States and a Mason. Most of us feel he gave and gave and only wanted the best for our young nation.

George Washington as a Mason

This temple was constructed almost 100 years ago. It lead us through a journey of the life of Washington as a Freemason. This was a tight group and brotherhood. He joined at a young age, went through the steps to become a Master Mason before he felt the call to join the Continental Army.

He remained a member throughout his military career and Presidential years. He served as Grand Master of his Lodge. The Masons do good work for the community and have a code of honor.

Washington was one of our country's heroes though he didn't die in service. The fact that he got sick from tending his farm and died at his farm does not minimize his sacrifice to his and our country.

With Memorial Day here, I think of many who have given, sacrificed in many ways and especially those that died in service.

Hi Debbie- some of our favorite memories of our time in Northern VA were the ones spent visiting the museums, Civil War sites, and Mount Vernon!

Debbie, I lived in Arlington many years ago, and the Washington Monument was a favorite memory of mine too.

Hello Debbie,

This is a wonderful post about George Washington and to think his false teeth were made or wood.

I was asked many years ago on becoming a Free Mason, word has it you can't just join you have to be asked.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day ;o)

Debbie Reynolds - What a great man George Washington was and you told me more than I knew. That must be one of the best trips you made and you obviously learned a lot too!

I'm so happy you posted this one. It is truly educational and a great read too!

You are very fortunate living so near to our American early history.   I have only been to Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC one time in my life, however, it was so filled with history and I will always have those memories.  Thank you for sharing.
