Real Estate by Debbie Reynolds: Throwback Thursday - The World's Fair

Throwback Thursday - The World's Fair

Throwback Thursdays - 1982 World's Fair

36 years ago, Knoxville, TN was the host city for the World's Fair. It was also known as the Knoxville International Energy Exposition. Millions of people came from all over the world to see the exhibitions and get in on the excitement.

Sunsphere

The Sunsphere is still there. It was built 266 ft. tall with a five story gold globe on top. It stands today as a symbol of Knoxville down in Fair Park near the Tennessee River. The Tennessee Realtors Convention is taking place at the Convention Center and this orb reigns over the center.is It serves as a reminder to me of the Realtors that left Clarksville to go work the Fair. Time Share ownership was the buzz back then and agents wanted to get in on the selling. Some were gone for months.

Today you have to have a special license to sell time shares. A Time Share agent in Tennessee cannot sell regular real estate without having an affiliate or full broker's license. Much more regulation has been added. Times have changed.

Good morning Debbie. The days of the World Fair are a distant memory and for those who are lucky, so is owning a timeshare. Enjoy your day!

Hi Debbie... totally forgot about that World's Fair. The one that immediately comes to mind for me when someone says World's Fair is the one in NYC in 1964/1965, which I attended many times while in high school. I don't think I've been to another since. And that site in NY is where the US Tennis facilities are now housed and the championships played.

Thanks for sharing his history lesson and your photograph.

You may wish to blog about those time share sales licenses.

Debbie, I just realized we were through your beautiful area about a month ago when my husband and I took our camper on it's maiden voyage!

Good morning Debbie.  Times have changed indeed.  Especially about timeshares and their current reputation.

In 1964 my father brought us to the World's Fair in New York. I remember the homes and cars of the future. Pretty much right on.

I wish I never heard the term timeshare

Hmm, do they still have a world fair annually?  I have only been to county and state fairs, but have not been to either in a long time.  I always enjoyed them as a kid.

Good morning Debbie. I am embarrassed to say, I didn't remember the World's Fair in Knoxville. I went to the World's Fair in 1964. It was amazing.

Good morning Debbie - All I seem to hear on ads now is how to get out of time shares.  I have never had one.

Debbie,

Love your story of the fair and the reminder of the globe.

While we were watching the US Open, Ron was reminiscing about the NY World Fair that he visited with his parents when he was in Junior High...Perhaps Nina Hollander saw Ron on the grounds?  LOL

Debbie I was there 36 years ago for the World's Fair.  My in-law's were living in Summerville, GA just 45 miles away at the time.

Debbie Reynolds - Thanks for educating me on the past history of the World Fair in TN. I enjoyed reading about it too. I think it's neat that George Souto was there. I've never been to one but I can imagine it was and always will be unforgettable. Isn't it amazing how far energy and technology has gotten since the time of that World Fair?

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... it's possible Ron and I were like ships passing in the night at the NY World's Fair so long ago.
